being healthy really does make me feel great. i had an appointment yesterday for my yearly visit. it had actually been a year and a half since i was last seen. with busy schedules and so much going on it passed my mind, but i am glad i realized i was overdue. now, the actual appointment irritates me. i am not too thrilled to be, examined. it is just not my thing at all. but, with everything that is going on in the world, i am glad to know my status.

you can never be too safe. so, even though i am pretty sure i was good, knowing to me is way better than assuming. it often perplexes me when i hear people say that they would rather not know his or her status. instead of getting tested for stds or stis or hiv or getting a routine check up, they go on with their days, months, years. i think it is just more realistic, especially with the advancement in medicine, to know if you have an issue, and if you do, seek treatment. the numbers for std, sti, and hiv infection are beyond high, anything above zero is too much in my mind, but there is help for these conditions. many cities offer free or reduced rate screenings for individuals with low income or without insurance, i fit this category right now!

many stds and stis can be treated with medication that will remove the problem from your body. other stds that will stay with you, such as herpes and hpv, can also be treated to maintain your health. hiv is a big topic, but education, testing, and treatment for hiv has progressed so much. living with any of these conditions without some form of treatment may not only damage your body beyond your reproductive health, but can also harm other people you may be involved with currently or in the future. of course, with all stds, all stis, and hiv, there may be a stigma that you probably are less than cautious with your sexual appetite or doing something that others may not agree with you doing. but, that is not always the case. sometimes, the people you trust your body with are not always trustworthy. it really does not take much to contract something. and really, it is no one's business what you decide to do with your life or your body, as long as you are happy and willing to live with the choices you are making for yourself. if you go into any clinic or doctor's office and see someone else there, think about the fact they you and him or her are simply being responsible, informed individuals. if you do not take care of your body, who will?

being safe is cool. if you are not, or ever have the mentality that nothing will happen to you, think more carefully. something usually occurs when you are at your weakest, most vulnerable point. being unrealistic can be that point.

get tested, know your status, if need be, get help, and if not, help someone else by sharing your experience. my experience was worth knowing and worth sharing.
